29, 1999Day off in Missoula
Realizing we had nothing on the agenda today, we lazily ate breakfast and did laundry. Needing to get the RV in shape to put it for sale, I ended up cleaning out each drawer and cabinet which took several hours. Brian hardly moved from the lounge chair, as expected. Our neighbor, Bill, shared stories of a friend who had walked across America, educating high school students about teen suicide, after his son had killed himself. He told us of a Vietnam Vet, who speaks about Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome to other Vets. Pointing to the mountains ahead of us, Bill stated many Vets now live in the hills buried from society. We contemplated the ills in our society, and ironically, at six oclock, heard of the mass shooting in Atlanta, the third such incident in our hometown since May. Even more reason to leave the troubles of the city. Racing to the clubhouse for an internet connection, I was concerned if I knew anyone involved in the tragedy. Brian had to pull me away from the computer to go to dinner. We rode our bikes to Rocky Mountain Grill & Casino where played a few games of computer poker, ate a nice meal and headed back to the campsite for sleep. |
