Chasing Senators on the Hill is More Tiring than Riding 75 Miles
Sleeping in until 8 am was a luxury we had not allowed ourselves
for
months. We lazily prepared for our 11:30 appointment at NAMI
headquarters. We were greeted outside by a crowd of NAMI staffers
cheering our arrival, and the celebration continued with a reception
with gatorade and cake!
Once again, we scooted off to the hill for another jammed packed
day.
We met with an aide for Senator Fitzgerald of Illinois and then
met with
Senator Wellstone, Senator Coverdale, and Senator Durbin. Brian
got a
serendipitous treat when he saw the head the EPA, Carol Browner,
who had
also just arrived for a meeting with Durbin.
We trapsed off for a photo session with Congresswoman Cynthia
McKinney,
and ran into Congressman John Lewis....so we got an added bonus.
Zonked from a day of running around, we drove north to the
home of our
friends Andy and Ruthie Weissel where they treated us to a gourmet
meal
and great company. Andy is the brother of my college roommate,
Jackie
Weissel Braun. As a special treat, Andy and Jackies Mom joined
us for
dinner as well.
